Keighley Cougars Reserves 0 Featherstone Rovers 52

DEAN Muir lambasted his side and asked serious questions of some of his players after an embarrassing home defeat to the Featherstone Rovers.

Muir said afterwards: “There has been choice words in the dressing room, me, Scott (Lindsey) and Frank (Levy) have aired our opinions and Paul March has told them exactly what it means to play for this club.

“Some of the lads haven’t met high standards we set in the reserve set-up at this club, Ross Peltier pulled out 40 minutes before the game, which is the second time he’s done that to us this year and we lost Connor Taylor to concussion early on after a great start to the game.”

After keeping the Rovers at bay in the opening ten minutes, Sam Day broke the deadlock when he pushed off a weak tackle to go over next to the posts.

Day got his and his side's second going over from dummy half after a superb Andy Gabriel tackle stopped Brad England scoring from his own break.

England did get on the scoresheet when he crashed over when his clever offload out to the wing sent Jack Lloyd racing away to touch down.

The England and Day combination would prove pivotal in Featherstone’s final try of the first half when the second rower strolled through a gap and offloaded to Day who took the ball behind the sticks for his hat-trick.

The second half brought more misery for Muir’s young side as the Rovers scored a further five tries without reply.

Kyran Johnson raced 60 metres to score underneath the posts breaking through the attempted tackles of Martyn Broadley and Jack Kennedy before rounding Jordan Aitchison.

The second try of the half come in similar circumstances with full back Jordan Grayston breaking a challenge before using the space to his left to send Lloyd in for a try.

Interchange Nathan Flowers crashed over the line from close range despite some great Keighley defence with a Louis Brown breakaway try and a Grayston try took the visitors’ tally past the half-century mark.
