KEIGHLEY Cougars will formally induct Danny Jones into the club’s Hall of Fame on Friday evening.

Jones died after suffering a cardiac arrest, triggered by hereditary heart disease, in their Kingstone Press League One away fixture against the London Skolars last month.

Chairman Gary Fawcett said: “Danny played over 150 first-team games for us and scored over 1,000 points.

“It goes without saying that everyone at the club wanted Danny to be in our Hall of Fame, so we are expecting a busy and emotional night.”

‘Jonesy’, as he was affectionately known, made history in April as his try in the 54-20 victory at the Hemel Stags saw him become only the fifth player in the club's history to reach 1,000 points in a green and red jersey.

A Welsh international with 14 caps to his name, Jones put in a man of the match performance in the 2009 Championship One Grand Final as Keighley secured promotion with a 28-26 victory over the Oldham Roughyeds in Warrington.

Jones was also a 2011 Northern Rail Cup runner-up with home-town club Halifax after his semi-final drop goal in golden-point extra-time against Featherstone Rovers had secured their place in Blackpool.

Jones left behind his wife Lizzie and young twins Bobby and Phoebe. A Just Giving RFL benevolent fund set up for them has so far raised over £205,000, plus more than £38,000 in Gift Aid.

Friday's event begins at 7.30pm in the club’s Hall of Fame bar. Proceeds from tickets sales, priced £5 including supper, will go to the fund for Jones' family.

Fans are asked to buy tickets in advance on the club's website if possible.
