NEW Cougars loan recruit Tyler Dickinson is ‘excited’ to get going at Cougar Park.

Following his arrival last week, the Huddersfield Giants forward made his debut from the bench as the Cougars were defeated for the fourth time this year by Swinton.

Dickinson said: “I got the phone call off Paul March on the Tuesday night saying he wanted me to join on loan and I was happy to do so and I’m excited to be at Cougar Park.

“I was at Halifax for a brief spell of around two months and I missed out on the 17 one week and never got back into the side, so Paul Anderson called me back to Huddersfield.”

While on loan with the part-time Cougars, the utility forward will continue to train during the day in the full-time environment at Huddersfield, but he feels the difference between the two isn’t great.

He said: “The difference in standards between full-time and part-time isn’t as much as people like to think. The only massive one is the amount of training you do as a player.”

And Tyler’s versatile positioning means he adds cover for many of Paul March’s long-term injuries including Jode Sheriffe and Ash Linday.

He said: “I’m predominantly a prop forward but I’m comfortable in the second row and at loose forward as they all come naturally to me.

“Wherever Marchy wants me to play is not a problem because I’ll play there as I’m comfortable anywhere in the pack."

The main problem facing the Giant loanee is his unfamiliarity with his new team-mates, with fellow loan recruit Adam Brook the only player in the Cougar ranks Dickinson knows.

“I’m familiar with Brooky (Adam Brook) as I’ve played against him a few times and we’re from the same area.

“There’s a couple other of the lads that I’ve played against and seen around away from the pitch but at this moment Brooky is the only one I really know.

There will be bragging rights among the Huddersfield ranks when the Cougars face Oldham in the top-of-the-table clash next month as many of Dickinson’s team-mates, including Nathan Mason and Oliver Roberts, will be playing for the Roughyeds.

“I’ll absolutely love playing against some of the lads from Huddersfield when we play Oldham in a couple of weeks," he admitted.

“It’ll be funny, in regards to playing with them at the Giants, to get one over on them but hopefully on the day, the Cougars get the two points anyway.”
