Cougars player-coach Paul March admits he has a big decision to make on whether to pick James Feather and Ollie Pursglove in Sunday’s Play-Off Final against Swinton.

Club captain Feather has missed the past two games against Oldham and North Wales Crusaders because of his long-standing wedding commitments in Cyprus.

Pursglove was Feather’s best man and missed the Crusaders match, with March initially critical of Feather’s decision to tie the knot during the season.

Yet he acknowledges the contribution that both men have made to the club ahead of the winner-takes-all clash at Widnes.

March, who along with twin brother David is set to make the final appearance of his career this weekend, said: “Buster and Ollie will come back into contention and it will be a big call to make as to whether they play.

“Obviously there are players who have just helped us get to the final by beating North Wales Crusaders and might now have to drop out, but we’ll make that call later in the week.

“Both Buster and Ollie have been a big part of the squad all year, so I’ll assess the squad throughout the week and make my decision.

“Either way there are going to be some disappointed lads not playing in a big final.

“We will be missing Sean Kelly, Adam Brook and Jode Sheriffe through injury, but everyone else will be fit and ready for selection.

“Tyler Dickinson took a bit of a knock on Sunday but we’re hopeful that he will be fine.”

Cougars are desperate to erase the pain of last season’s agonising relegation and honour the memory of team-mate Danny Jones, who died in May aged just 29.

Swinton have beaten Keighley four times this year following a pre-season encounter, iPro-Sport League Cup meeting and two league clashes.

Yet March added: “We’re two-evenly matched sides and it’s up to us now to go to Widnes and, if we produce a performance like we did on Sunday, I’m sure we will come out on top.

“Finals should be close and both clubs are desperate to make an immediate return to the Championship.

“We’re doing it for ourselves and for Jonesy, so that will drive us on even more.

“Swinton have a good forward pack and their key players are Richie Hawkyard and Stuart Littler.

“It’ll be a tough battle but one we’re looking forward to. I think the recent defeat at Oldham has prepared everyone for this game.

“Hopefully people will know what to expect this weekend and it’s going to be quick on Widnes’ artificial surface.

“Some of the lads played on it last season in the Challenge Cup quarter-final but we’ve played on pitches like that at London Skolars and Newcastle as well this year anyway, so we’re used to it.

“All that aside, if we turn up with the right attitude then I’m sure we will come out on top.”

Meanwhile, centre or back-rower Charlie Martin will join Cougars on a one-year deal from next season.

He featured for the club six times during the 2013 season during a dual-registration stint from Castleford and has since had stints at Batley and Hunslet following a trial spell at Bradford Bulls earlier this year.

March said: “I'm happy that Charlie is heading back to the club because we've stayed in touch since that spell. He needs to be playing regularly for the sake of his career and hopefully I can help him with that.”
