COUGARS coach Paul March has been delivering early Christmas presents to schools across the Keighley district in the form of free junior season tickets.

Next year will be the fourth season that the club have run the scheme to encourage youngsters to support the club.

And March had a further gift for schools who are involved with the tag rugby events put on by the Cougars Community Foundation in the form of a Keighley shirt signed by all the players.

He said: "I delivered 1,500 season tickets to eight schools last week and I'm waiting for the next delivery of between 2,000 and 3,000 to come back from the printers.

"The signed shirts were to say an extra 'thank you' for taking part in our tag rugby programme."

March, who coaches in local schools, said Cougars' work with youngsters in the community was vital - in developing both fans and players of the future for Keighley.

He said: "Tag rugby is a way of getting youngsters interested in playing our great game of rugby league.

"We have a specific pathway on which players can develop with us - from tag rugby in primary schools to champion (secondary) schools, on to academy level at Craven College and then the reserves and the first team.

"The schemes we run are vital for us as youngsters are our future, both on the playing and supporting side."
