VINNY Finigan has spoken of his delight after making the 100th appearance of his career with a try in last weekend’s win at Coventry Bears.

Paul March’s side racked up their sixth consecutive win with a 36-16 win at the Ricoh Arena with Finigan among the scorers.

The winger, who played in Super League with Bradford, is now aiming to continue on the try-scoring trail and help Cougars to promotion.

Finigan, a close-season signing from Hunslet, said: “I didn’t even know it was my 100th career appearance until someone told me and it came as a bit of a shock.

“But it was nice to do it at the Ricoh Arena in such a big stadium.

“It was really hot and I think the scoreline flattered us because we didn’t produce the most crisp of performances.

“We scored three tries in the last five or 10 minutes and I think we could have done a lot better.

“But to reach 100 games is something special and it will stay in the memory bank forever.

“I thought I went all right during the game and, as a winger, scoring a try is always nice.

“Paul White did an exceptional job all afternoon and gave me a great pass to score.

“I want to say thanks to the Keighley fans because they gave me and the team outstanding support at Coventry.

“I’d also like to thank Paul March for giving me an opportunity here at Keighley. Hopefully he will play me week in and week out.”

Finigan has played six games for Keighley in 2016, and has previously made appearances for Hunslet (14, 2015), Hemel Stags (three, 2015), Batley (17, 2014), Dewsbury (two, 2013), Sheffield (53, 2011-2013) and Bradford (5, 2010).

Keighley host Hemel Stags on Sunday and Finigan, having made his name at the Bulls, admits he is unlikely to ever return to Super League.

Finigan is based in Leeds and works as a learning development officer for Capita, which sees him training staff in telecommunications at organisations such as Debenhams and Samsung.

The 26-year-old added: “Playing in Super League is always a nice dream to have and I can say that I have done it.

“I’m happy just playing the best I can here for Keighley and if anything happens beyond that it’s just a bonus.

“The main focus is on getting Keighley Cougars promoted back to the Championship.

“I’ve played in that league for years and it’s a tough competition.

“It has changed even more now with four full-time clubs in there in Bradford, London, Sheffield and Leigh.

“But I think Keighley can be massive contenders to get promoted this season and do well in the Championship next year.

“When you look at our squad with the experiences within it and the structures that we play to under Paul March as head coach, then I think we can get there.

“We sometimes switch off against teams which on paper we should be beating.

“Even League One is competitive with Toulouse in there this season and you saw how closely they ran Wakefield in the Challenge Cup on Sunday.

“But I think we would definitely compete in the Championship.”
