PAUL March believes success in this weekend’s iPro Sport Cup final against York City Knights can have a snowball effect on Cougars’ fortunes.

Keighley face their League One rivals on Saturday lunchtime at Blackpool in the first game of the Summer Bash, which sees all Championship clubs playing a round of fixtures over two days.

Cougars will take centre stage at noon in the first game of the weekend and are set to be backed by several hundred supporters at Bloomfield Road.

March’s men lost both their promotion finals against Oldham and Swinton last year and the Cougars boss is hoping it will be third time lucky.

He reckons that beating York can not only fuel Cougars’ bid to win promotion to the Championship later this season, but also attract more fans to Cougar Park on a regular basis.

He said: “Beating York in Blackpool is not only the ideal way to win some silverware, but also to generate a bit of a buzz around the place.

“That should breed confidence in our league campaign for the rest of the season and might help us to get bigger gates when we play at home.

“That additional revenue is important for a club like Keighley Cougars, so winning the iPro Sport Cup would be a massive boost to everyone involved at the club.

“Everyone always wants to win silverware, so we want our name on the trophy and it was one of our goals at the start of the season.

“If we perform like we know we can, then hopefully it will be good enough on the day.”
