Keighley Albion back on track with 13-try demolition of York Locomotive

KEIGHLEY Albion gained revenge for a heavy defeat earlier in the season as the hosts returned to action in style.

They had not played since losing to promotion rivals Leeds Akkies on June 24 but an emphatic victory left them two points behind second-placed Cutsyke with a game in hand.

Having been released by Keighley Cougars, Alfie Seeley was back in an Albion shirt and produced a man of the match display, bagging three tries and eight goals.

Albion’s pack were outstanding from the off, led by captain Mark Smith and front row partner Jack Kennedy. Josh Ireland and Chris Spencer took them forward with aggressive running, with the back line of Rob Spencer and Seeley providing good support, and Andy Stokes and Colin Pickles adding experience out wide.

Utility player Liam Kelly showed more adaptability at full back, performing the role with great confidence.

Keighley were 32-12 up at the interval before racing even further clear in the second half to complete a 13-try rout.

Along with Seeley, others to cross the whitewash were Richard Blackburn, Kelly, Stokes, Rob Spencer, Smith, Ben Benfield, Josh Ireland, Chris Spencer, Danny Bowness and Morgan Robinson.

Albion head to sixth-placed Allerton Bywater on Saturday.
