JONNY Walker is open to the prospect of joining Cougars on a permanent basis after admitting his career at Bradford is effectively over.

The Bulls prop headed to Cougar Park at the beginning of last month and has enjoyed his time with Paul March’s side.

His loan will continue until the end of the season but his future beyond that is unclear as his contract at Odsal expires at the end of this year.

Walker has made less than a handful of appearances for Bradford since joining the club from Leigh during last winter and is no longer training with Rohan Smith’s full-time squad.

The Scotland international said: “I've been really enjoying myself here at Keighley and Marchy has been giving me long minutes.

“Losing to Hunslet last weekend was obviously very disappointing and I think we took them for granted.

“But I had been performing well until then and I've always enjoyed being at Keighley because this is where I started off.

“I get on with all the lads but at the moment I don't know what's going to happen at the end of the year, so I’m just training with Keighley now.

“I got on with (former Bulls coach) Jimmy Lowes and then he left, but after that I don't feel like I got a really good run-out.

“I played against Oldham, we smashed them, and I thought I would get a run in the side.

“I got on with Rohan too, but he must have already had his pick of players in the squad.

“I'm looking at different jobs now but hopefully something comes up where I can be part of a full-time environment. Being part of Cougars next season is definitely an option, though.”

Cougars travel to second-placed Rochdale on Sunday as they bid to bounce back from last weekend’s 18-8 home defeat at the hands of Hunslet.

March could make changes as his men bid to return to winning ways but Ash Lindsay will undergo a head test and Charlie Martin is a doubt with a finger injury.

Forwards Brendon Rawlins and Scott Law will be monitored in training this week.

Walker, who played for Cougars while on dual-registration from Castleford Tigers in 2013, is aiming to help March’s men kick-start their faltering promotion bid as he seeks to cement his place in the Scotland squad for the Four Nations.

Steve McCormack’s men will face the might of Australia, England and New Zealand as they seek to make further progress ahead of next year’s World Cup.

Walker added: “I'm really looking forward to playing for Scotland in the Four Nations and it will be great to come up against the three best teams in the world in England, Australia and New Zealand.

“Scotland are now classed as the fourth-best team, so that's fantastic for us to be pitting our wits against these top sides.

“We will have some NRL lads coming over as well, so that will give us a massive boost and will be a great experience for the likes of myself to play alongside them.

“I've spoken to Steve McCormack and hopefully I can be part of the final squad. Playing well for Keighley can only help me in that respect.”
