Keighley Cougars Reserves 56 South Wales Ironmen 8

SCOTT Lindsey’s Cougars Reserves registered their first league victory of the season after registering a comfortable success.

They got off to a magnificent start as Aidan Scully finished off a fluid move to touch over in the corner after he latched on to Rikki Sheriffe’s simple pass.

Despite Keighley pressure, the next significant event was an injury to Ironmen loose forward Rhys Davies, whose afternoon was ended following a tackle from Sheriffe.

South Wales temporarily stunned Cougars by levelling the score as Yousif Sullimun went over in the corner after the home side failed to capitalise on numerous opportunities to extend their early lead.

But they restored their advantage with their first converted try of the day after good work in the centres before some nice footwork set Luke Walters away as he crashed under the posts.

The home side added to their lead after a magnificent kick from scrum half Adam Brook saw Ash Hutchinson score Cougars’ third try.

However, they were pegged back once more as Lee Goddard found space to reduce the gap three minutes from half-time.

Keighley still found time to score again before the break as Luke Walters doubled his tally and Callum Smithson converted.

Cougars started the second half with some scintillating rugby from Gavin Reed and Lewis Davey which saw Jack Brown go over for a simple try.

Sheriffe was then involved once more. His routine pass allowed Scully to skip through the South Wales defence to effectively secure Cougars’ first win of the season.

They scored three more times in quick succession as Josh Casey, Ryan Price and Calvin Barker all touched down.

Brook appeared to be stamped on in the tackle but the incident went unpunished by the referee.

Scully then went over for his hat-trick, capitalising on slack defending from the Ironmen.

COUGARS: Barker, Davey, Casey, Sheriffe, Scully, Smithson, Brook, Cherryholme, Walters, Price, Pickering, Sagar, Reed. Subs: Brown, Adams, Rawlinson, Hutchinson.
