Keighley stormed up to second in the Co-operative Championship after running riot in the second half against Swinton tonight.

Cougars coach Jason Demetriou was left delighted with the way his side bounced back in front of the TV cameras after losing at Dewsbury last time out.

He said: “First half we were just so over-anxious and that comes after losing and having a week off to prepare.

“It was important that we got back on track after Dewsbury and we showed real pride in defence throughout and had a great attitude.

“I think that second half, in particular, is the best we’ve played all season and I think we’ve still got plenty more in the locker yet.”

It started well for the Lions as Gavin Dodd opened the scoring on the back of some good work from Darren Hawkyard.

Cougars got themselves back in it through James Haythornthwaite, with the introduction to the game of Jy-mel Coleman pivotal to the score.

In the second half, Keighley started to finally show what they are capable of with six scores.

Firstly, it was Semi Tadulala who got himself a typical winger’s try out wide and then James Feather went over.

Haythornthwaite got his second of the night as Swinton seemed to switch off after the break.

Coleman got one of his own and then Haythornthwaite unselfishly played in his winger Richie Barnett for back-to-back tries.

Local boy Haythornthwaite was rewarded with his hat-trick score shortly after, though, when he touched down in the corner to end a prosperous night for the Cougars, with a trip to York next up.
