Selby Warriors 28 Cowling Harlequins 34

Despite journeying to Selby with only 13 players, Cowling pulled off their second win of the season and their first away from home in two years.

Quins made a great start against a Warriors side that had beaten them earlier in the season.

Brian Vincent and James Marriott pushed them up field for man of the match Craig Nicholson to go in for his first try.

The conversion attempt was missed by Rob Owlett but he made amends two minutes later when Brannan Lawn got the visitors close to the line and Owlett spotted a gap in the home line to step his way over and add the extras.

From the restart Billy J Baker caught the ball on the full and ran 30 metres before offloading to barnstorming centre Adam Atenbury, who crossed for a great try.

Quins were full of confidence and increased their lead when full back Ben Pickles went under the sticks from an Owlett pass and the provider added the extras.

Cowling led 20-4 at the break but, with a lack of substitutes took its toll in the second half as Selby hit back.

However, great work from Chris Spencer and Jason Shaw kept Quins in the contest before Atenbury powered over the line off a Spencer pass.

Selby once again hit back to make it 24-24 with 15 minutes to go and, in trying to stop their equalising try, Spencer had to be rushed to hospital in York with a popped shoulder.

But this galvanised the visitors and Daz Greenwood powered over from an Owlett pass for a converted try.

With minutes to go a fight broke out, resulting in Quins’ Simon Eteson heading to the bin and his side was reduced to 11 players.

But Cowling added to their lead when the ball was spread wide for Lawn to power up field. With four defenders holding on to him, he popped the ball to Nicholson to run in for the match-clinching try.

Cowling now have a week off to prepare for their last game of the season at Wyke A on March 30.
