KEIGHLEY and Silsden rugby league clubs are to merge and hopefully play in the Pennine League Championship Division this season.

The new club will be known as Keighley and Silsden. The two committees have pooled their resources and will use both of their grounds and both bases (Silsden ARLFC and the Royal) alternately.

Keighley and Silsden ARLFC committee member David Procter, husband of club secretary Margaret, said: "Neither club had enough players and Silsden have been trying to get a coach all through the summer but without success.

"Keighley already have a coach so it made sense for us to merge and it has all been very amicable.

"The Pennine League are also happy with the merger and we hope to be playing in the Championship Division when the season starts on Saturday, September 20.

"However, in order to explain everything properly and answer any queries, the committee and coaches are holding a players' meeting at Cougar Park tonight (7.30) and would welcome old and new players to attend."
