Worth Village 56 Illingworth A 0

Against a very hard-working Illingworth side who turned up with no substitutes, Village had to be at their best to keep on top.

After ten minutes they went in front with a try from debutant Jack Copperwaite with his first touch of the ball after good work from Jonny Crowther and James Gow. Man of the match Joe Copperwaite converted his first of seven goals.

Luke Moorby scored next after Jonny Dawkins and Ben Ross had made the hard yards for Billy McKay to put him clear.

With Ricky Leatham and Joe Copperwaite running the show, Sean Cole scored out wide for a well-deserved try.

Illingworth couldn’t break the Worth defence, with Chris Ellison and Eddie Hall both showing up well. After good work from Chris Parker, Rob Spencer bulldozed his way over and Jason Dovestone was next to score after a good pass from Nick Hird.

A length-of-the-field run from man of the match Joe Copperwaite saw him unselfishly pass for his brother Jack to score under the posts and Ricky Leatham danced passed three defenders to make it 38-0 at half-time.

Illingworth were determined to keep the Village scoreline down but Sean Knapper went in under the posts after work from Gow and Luke Moorby.

Rob Spencer beat five men for a barnstorming try before Worth scored the last of ten tries as Hird went over following a trademark dash.

Village are home to Meltham on Saturday.
