Wyke A 16 Cowling Harlequins 14
Cowling went to Low Moor with confidence after a great win at home to Clayton A but this local derby has always been close and so it proved again.
Wyke started the stronger in front of a good crowd and went ahead when their prop powered over.
This spurred Quins on and, after great work from man of the match Scott Cunningham and scrum half Chris Spencer, ex-Keighley ARLFC player Spencer hit a great angle to coast in but the kicked was missed by Cunningham.
Wyke hit back again twice when they dived over from close range but good defensive work from Craig Nicholson and Jack Ninniss-Stodart kept the game close.
Cowling started well in the second half as Ashley Wood and Matty Salisbury moved them up field. Cunningham's grubber kick to the corner found Spencer, who dived over for his second try, leaving Quins trailing 16-8 with 25 minutes to go.
However, a loose pass from Daz Greenwood saw Wyke's winger sprint for the line but good work from Chris Ashworth and Jordan Powell helped save the visitors as the ball was dropped inches from the line.
Greenwood made up for his mistake when he latched on to a ball from Cunningham and Cunningham kicked the extras.
Time ran out as Quins now look forward to a tough game at home to Illingworth A on November 15.
