Worth Village 48 Boothtown Terriers A 0

Village overcame a strong Boothtown side, who made them work hard for the points despite the one-sided scoreline.

Ricky Leatham led the way as Jack Copperwaite latched on to a clever kick to score under the posts and his brother Joe converted.

With Ross and Sean Cole both standing out, Village struck again with a wonder try from Leatham, who beat the entire Terriers defence with a run from 80 yards. Prompted by man of the match Daz McNulty, Village increased their lead as James Low offloaded for the impressive Joe Buckley to go in from distance.

Rob Spencer, who was having his best game for a while, put Joe Copperwaite in for a 40-yard try as Village finished 24-0 ahead at the break.

Boothtown came out for the second half in a more determined mood but Leatham showed great skill again which resulted in a penalty try, Chris Parker converting. Sean Cole was next to score with a well-deserved try from 40 yards but Village weren't finished as Kris Gott added a trademark score from 80 yards down the wing. The icing was put on the cake when Spencer surged over and Gott added the extras.

Village are away to local rivals Cowling in the Pennine Supplementary Cup second round on Sunday (2pm).

Meanwhile, Keighley Albion received their third walkover in what is becoming an increasingly stop-start first campaign since returning to the Pennine League.

They were due to play Slaithwaite Saracens but their Division Five opponents could not raise a team. Albion have already been given the points in a scheduled fixture against Brighouse Rangers A , while they were given a bye into the second round of the Pennine Supplementary Cup after opponents Queensbury B conceded.

Albion are due to visit Eastmoor Dragons in the next round on Saturday.
