Cowling Harlequins 0 Worth Village 48

COWLING went in to this Pennine League Supplementary Cup second-round derby after a two-week lay-off, while Village were full of confidence following a series of impressive wins.

This was the sides' third meeting of the season and both teams exchanged blows early on as they strived to wrestle the initiative.

There was strong defence from man of the match Chris Spencer and, for Village, Ricky Latham was an influential figure.

Cowling's Jay Bingham and Chris Greenwood tried their best to get the Quins over the line but it was Worth who broke the deadlock with a quickfire double from their man of the match Joe Copperwaite to see them 10-0 up at the break.

Harlequins came back out in confident mood despite the scoreline but with only one sub due to work commitments they knew they had to get an early score in the second half.

But it was Village who struck almost immediately from the restart as they shipped the ball wide for Chris Gott to score and, with that try Cowling's heads dropped.

Worth picked up a head of steam and ran in some great tries but credit to Spencer, Chris Ashworth, Steve Powell and Scott Cunningham for battling to the final whistle.

Harlequins are at Boothtown Terriers A this weekend.
