Division Six West: Worth Village 28 Odsal Sedbergh 6

VILLAGE overcame a very strong Odsal side who were determined to leave their mark on them.

From the kick-off, Sedbergh gave Worth a taste of things to come with some strong running forwards and nippy half-backs.

But Ben Ross and Billy McKay kept them out with some big hits on their pack.

Village struck first, with Dave O’Connor scoring after hard work from Jack Copperwaite and Jason Dovestone made the space, Joe Copperwaite adding the extras.

Worth were hit by an injury to playmaker Ricky Leatham, who had to leave the field.

Daz McNulty used his experience to keep the backs going as Sean Cole and Nick Hird made the space for Joe Copperwaite to score out wide.

Sean Knapper and Rob Spencer were working hard to keep out Odsal and, with half-time approaching, Jonny Crowther and Connor Caveney gave O’Connor chance to score his second try and put Village16-0 in front.

On the restart Odsal came back hard and scored under the posts after having three sets of six to keep Village on their toes.

Man of the match Hird produced some copybook tackling as Village got on top of Odsal and were unlucky not to score, with Sean Snowden and Hird having tries disallowed.

A trademark try from Kris Gott, which saw him outpace the cover defence after being put through a gap 60 yards out, made it 22-6.

The try of the game came late on, with Paul Phillips setting up the impressive Ross to charge 70 yards and go in under the posts.

On Saturday, Worth are away to Victoria Rangers A.
