Vic Rangers 10 Worth Village 26

Worth Village went top of the table after a hard-fought win against a strong Vic Rangers side bolstered by first-team players after their game had been called off.

It took Village 20 minutes to score the first try with Jason Dovestone and Joe Buckley combining to give captain Daz McNulty the chance to dummy his way over from close range.

With the pack well led by Ben Ross and Sean Knapper, Village had to work overtime to keep out a well-drilled Vics side. The visitors struck again, with man of the match Jack Copperwaite going in from 60 yards after outpacing the defence, Joe Copperwaite converting.

Only good defence from Nick Hird, Sean Cole and Jonny Crowther kept Rangers out before Rob Spencer put Jack Copperwaite on another long-range run but this time he was held just short of the line.

Howver, quick work from Buckley saw Joe Copperwaite go in under the posts for a 16-0 half-time lead.

Vics came out determined to make their mark but strong running from Daz Jackson and Connor Caveney kept them on the back foot.

Kris Gott got in on the act with a try after a trademark 60-yard run following good work from Sean Snowdon and Jake Feather.

Vics' hooker, who was their best player, scored a well-deserved try before Village touched down again with a length of the field move. The ball went through six sets of hands and James Gow dotted down in the corner, Vics adding a late consolation try.

Worth are at Illingworth on Saturday.
