Keighley Albion u-11s 24 Elland u-11s 26

A GAME which Albion seemed to have control of slipped from their grasp as Elland snatched victory at the death.

The visitors took the lead before a superb break from Caleb McConville was backed up by Riley Corby, who was brought down just before the line. The ball was shipped to Reece Smollen who slalomed his way under the sticks, McConville converting.

Stoic defence kept a well-drilled Elland outfit at bay before another incisive attack saw Lewis Bloodworth being hauled down just short of the line. However, Tyler Moyles snuck over from acting half on the next play, McConville easily converting to give Albion the half-time advantage.

Elland narrowed the deficit but the irresistible Ben McParland scored two fantastic efforts from near halfway, both converted by McConville.

But Elland pegged the score back, capitalising on some poor Keighley defence, before a spectacular effort from the visitors’ full back and subsequent conversion won the game.

Albion broke through in the third minute when Lewis Reynoldson scooped up the ball to score.

Further tries from Tommy Lowrey and Ethan Spencer, plus a conversion from Lewis Reynoldson, gave Keighley a 14-0 lead at half-time.

Albion backed up their attacking flow with relentless defence, which resulted in Philip Sabin cutting through with a well-taken try. Lowrey touched down again, finishing off a move he had started.

With a defence that has conceded only one try in two games, this is something which can take them a long way.

Albion played some great rugby as their man of the match Hamza Butt scored six tries, including one which went through all of the boys’ hands for a magic score. Ben Horsfield also crossed for his second hat-trick this season.

Cougars coach Paul March was there to see his son playing for Shaw Cross, who played some great stuff themselves and just had too much on the day.

Young Quins never gave up in their first outing against a well-drilled Leopards team. North Leeds started strong before Kamron Rushworth carved a gap with fast feet and dived in at the corner. On the next set Lewis Carter powered to the line and Rushworth kicked the two.

Man of the match Dylan Carter stole the show with great defence and two good tries. Rushworth and Carter linked up to put Corey Verity over in the corner. The game finished one-sided but Cowling could hold their heads high.

Quins faced a big Dudley Hill side and played brilliantly as William Hocaniuk and Bradley Foulds got Cowling firing, with Hocaniuk scoring the team’s first hat-trick and man of the match Foulds notching two good tries.

Try of the match came from Reegan Rushworth, who ran full length into the corner. On the next set Rushworth went over after a good ball from Kayden Smith.
