Methley Warriors u-11s 12 Keighley Albion u-11s 34

ALBION underlined their potential with another great display against a Methley Warriors team that have dispatched teams who Keighley were unable to beat earlier in the season.

Poor defence allowed Methley to go in almost unopposed but, after a series of good thrusts, Josh Dickerson spread the ball to Henry Thirkhill, who battered his way over for his first ever try. Lewis Bloodworth spotted a gap and his scintillating speed saw him race over the line before Reece Smollen dashed under the sticks.

Methley scored next but, after more enterprising play down the right, the ball was moved infield to Bloodworth, who dummied and his nimble feet saw him touch down, Caleb McConville adding his third conversion.

Going up the slight slope, Albion were on the offensive from the off with the left side of Tyler Moyles, Evan Jones and James Sabin proving almost impregnable. More great rugby saw the ball shipped to Thirkhill in space, who, having moved to centre, showed tremendous speed before stepping through the cover to double his try tally, Liam Cooney converting.

McConville launched a counter-attack from deep before Ben McParland showed great ball skills to dummy his way over. The hosts added a consolation try but this did little to take the gloss off another great performance. Players and parents award went to Thirkhill, with Bloodworth and Moyles taking the opposition and coaches gongs.

Albion go into the summer break in sixth place with six wins out of 12 following a tough examination at promotion contenders Moldgreen.

Albion’s attack didn’t carry the same threat as their opponents, who led 16-0 at the interval, but they never looked like running away with it in the face of some determined tackling.

As the second half progressed, Albion came more into the picture and their best attacking moments both stemmed from the boot of Joel Livock. His kick to find touch led to Harry Webster holding off a couple of challenges to score in the corner. James McDonald’s touchdown was ruled out following an astute grubber kick through the defence.

Match awards went to Harry Webster, Tom Crocket, Ciaran Bartlett and, for his exceptional tackling, Matty Smith.
