West Craven Warriors 36 Worth Village 26

Two tries in the final ten minutes killed off Worth Village's hopes in a close-fought Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy first round tie.

Strong defence from Kris Gott and Liam Gillard helped repel early pressure from the home side. Their good work was rewarded when a perfect kick from man of the match Rob Spencer enabled Jack Copperwaite to collect a metre away from the line and force his way over the whitewash with two players round him.

Five minutes later, Spencer danced his way over the line with Gott kicking the conversions for both tries.

West Craven came back with a try before Gillard crossed and Gott added the conversion again as the first half finished with the scores level at 18-18.

West Craven opened the scoring in an entertaining second half before some great running from Joe Hall, Jake Feather and Simon Bolton put the home side under pressure.

Spencer crossed the line for his second try and Gott kicked the conversion, but Warriors put the game out of reach with two further scores.

Worth Village will be competing in the Danny Kelly Memorial 9s tournament at Cougar Park on October 18.

Meanwhile, Silsden lost 54-6 at Meltham All Blacks in Pennine League Division Four West.
