ALBION gained revenge on Stanley with a much more comfortable win than the scoreline suggested in an often spiky affair.

Stanley took the lead from a dummy-half scoot before the dangerous combination of Reece Smollen and Caleb McConville saw the latter sprint in from halfway and add the conversion for Albion.

Another terrific team try followed when Ben McParland bounced through tackles before offloading. Tyler Moyles and Smollen moved play to the other side of the pitch to McConville, who again outpaced the cover defence, with Josh Dickerson adding the extras.

A skirmish seemed to focus Albion and their defensive intensity picked up. More good passing saw Riley Corby bust a number of tackles before getting his arms free to the supporting Moyles, who himself rode a couple of desperate tackles to dot down under the sticks, giving Dickerson an easy conversion.

In the second half another raid by Smollen and McConville saw the latter break clear before passing back to Smollen, who slalomed his way over and McConville converted.

McParland was denied a wonder try from halfway with a knock-on before a late Stanley try ended the scoring in what was Albion's final outing of the season. Awards went to McParland (opposition), Corby (parents), Smollen (players)and Ethan Brewster (coaches).

Albion took a break from league action to test themselves against higher ranked opposition, putting on a determined display to fully merit their slender victory.

First division Normanton had gone ahead with two early tries but Matty Smith crossed in the corner to make the score 12-4 at the break.

The second half turned into a rip-roaring affair as tries by Ciaran Bartlett, Edward Croft and Aidan Barrett put Albion ahead for the first time with less than ten minutes to play.

A converted try then gave the hosts a two-point advantage but, with time running out, some tremendous Albion pressure gained its reward as the ball went wide for Edward Croft to provide the winning try.

Match awards were given to Bartlett (2), Croft, Josh Charnock and Tom Crocket.
