Emley Moor 4 Worth Village 24

WITHOUT a game for a fortnight, Worth Village had a shaky opening 15 minutes in the driving wind and rain at Emley Moor.

Conditions seemed to suit the hosts more but eventually the visitors took control, Daz Jackson bumping off would-be tacklers to score their first try.

Luke Whitley joined him on the scoresheet not long after when he split the defence to glide over for a try but Village then survived a daft 10 minutes, where they gave cheap yards to the home side, having to rely on their much-improved defence.

But new hooker Jack Cawood then took control of the game, along with man of the match Rob Spencer and Calum Hudson, who rolled back the years to race over from 10 yards out after good work by Dave O'Conner.

Jake Feather, Conner and Dale Spencer worked hard in attack as well as defence, while Jack Copperwaite continued to show his class from full back, always seeming to beat the first two defenders.

A training ground move led to Village's third try as Feather ran on the blind-side before Cawood stepped into a huge gap to run the ball in from 50 yards.

The second half became a mudbath thanks to icy, driving rain but Sean Cole was always available to take the ball for Village, as was Liam Kelly, who was also putting in tackle after tackle.

Their last try came from Cawood slipping the ball to Spencer, and Hudson, who missed two players out, passing the ball wide to the fleet-footed Liam Gillard, who was like a ballerina, stepping around two defenders to race in to score a well-deserved try.

Kris Gott added two conversions but Emley Moor never gave up and scored a deserved consolation try.
