Pennine League Division Four West: Silsden 34 King Cross Park A 10

SILSDEN had to move this fixture to Marley to get the game on due to continuing problems on their home pitch and also had to deal with continuing injuries and unavailability, meaning they started with just 13 players against a young team with four subs.

However, they began in determined style and elected to run the ball on the fifth tackle with Ben Pickles charging over under the posts, goaled by Charlie Lowrie.

Then came one of the best tries of the season, created by Lowrie, who made a great run for Tim Wilkinson to touch down for another converted try.

Silsden's power showed once again when a burst from Ben Ross was followed by a loose pass, picked up Lowrie, who passed to Chris Greenwood for the third try, Lowrie again adding the extras.

The next barn-storming run came from Kris Stell, playing at centre, who handed on to Pickles. He in turn passed to the supporting Scott Cunningham, who went in under the posts as the Cobbydalers led 24-0 at the break.

The second half saw the visitors respond with a converted try, soon followed by another score in the corner.

Silsden hit back with a strong run from Jason Scott, taken on by James Bowdin and completed with a try in the corner by Stell. The same player had another score chalked off after a great run, but Silsden had the final say from a Ben Ross surge, with Greenwood touching down under the posts for Lowrie to complete the scoring with the conversion.

This was a good all-round team performance, with great contributions from Ross, Cunningham, Greenwood, Lowrie, Bowdin and Dave Goodings.

Silsden host local rivals Cowling on Saturday.
