East Leeds u-14s 46 Keighley Albion u-14s 28
TWO MATCHES in under 24 hours against tough opposition was always likely to be a difficult proposition for Keighley Albion under-14s and so it proved on a hot day at East Leeds.
Having lost to Cramlington Rockets in the curtain-raiser at Cougar Park the previous day, Albion were soon up against it when they returned to league action in a game of 13 tries.
In the early stages Albion were competitive, holding their hosts to 12-10 after tries by Matty Smith and Xander McConville.
But an uncharacteristic leaky defence was always vulnerable to the quick counter-punches of the home side’s strike runners and East Leeds clocked up their next 28 points without reply.
A rout seemed possible but to their credit Albion came back strongly in the last ten minutes with well-worked tries by Ciaran Bartlett, Josh Charnock and Harry Webster, all converted by Joel Livock which gave them some consolation.
Match awards went to Matty Smith, Bartlett and McConville.
