Yorkshire Men's League Division Two: Cutsyke 34 Keighley Albion 39

Keighley Albion ended Cutsyke's long unbeaten home run in a thrilling encounter.

They came into the game with nearly a full strength side and confidence running high but the hosts opened the scoring straight from the kick-off.

Albion levelled following a great chip over the defensive line from Rob Spencer which allowed Alex Young to throw a wide ball to Jack Atkinson, who ran around the winger to score his first try.

Good rugby from the hosts saw them regain the lead but a great kick from Spencer into the corner saw Atkinson claim his second.

Despite another Cutsyke try, Albion's forwards were starting to get on top but Keighley suffered a massive blow when Josh Ireland picked up an injury after an outstanding display in the pack.

However, a well-worked move and finish from Young saw them narrow the deficit and they took the lead when Atkinson got on the end of another great kick to claim his hat-trick.

A penalty on the stroke of half-time from Conner Meegan saw them lead 24-18 at half-time.

Cutsyke were soon level in the second half and Albion's pack, led by captain Mark Smith, needed to produce some great defence to stop them going in front again.

A touch of brilliance from centre Col Pickles saw him tear the home defence apart and beat the fullback as if he wasn’t there to score under the sticks.

But Keighley were reduced to 12 men when Kriss Gott was sent to the sin bin for the second time in the match.

Jack Kennedy, Joe Preston and Chris Spencer battled manfully in the pack but could not stop Cutsyke from levelling the game at 34-34.

It was anyone's game and Keighley seized the initiative. Back on the field again, Gott broke the line and, though he was caught on Cutsyke's 20-metre mark, the pack drove onto the line for Rob Spencer to power over from dummy half.

Scrambling defence then kept the hosts out in the dying minutes before Meegan's drop goal sealed victory to end Cutsyke's unbeaten home run of two years.
