Sildsen Storm under-11s 30 Brotherton under-11s 22
SILSDEN continued their winning run against a side who had previously had their number.
A sluggish start saw them go 6-0 down but Jack Beck kick-started Storm with a fine individual try from 30 metres out, Shakeal Templeton adding the conversion.
Brotherton hit back with a solo try from their winger before Joe Beck made two long-distance breaks, one from his own try line, though he was held up on both occasions.
Oliver Moran, back in the team, produced a try-saving tackle to stop a certain try and then Jake Bartlam powered over from close range. This was converted by Templeton to make it 12-12 at half-time.
Storm looked a shadow of their recent selves but upped their game in the second half, Robson Weir getting a grip on the match with some excellent passing and runs. He was rewarded by scoring an excellent individual try, showing great speed and side-stepping skills to go under the sticks as Silsden went 18-12 ahead.
Brotherton hit back and looked certain to score but the fantastic Templeton saved the day with a brilliant try-saving tackle. However, they did level the score but up stepped big Jack Stephenson to go over for a superb solo try from 30 metres out.
Brotherton did not give up and closed the gap to 24-22 before another Stephenson try from distance sealed victory for Silsden.
In what was a game of two halves, Silsden must switch on for the full 40 minutes as a better side would have put the game out of reach by half-time. Storm must also learn to support players when they break the line to provide them with options.
Awards: Jack Stephenson (coach's and supporters' player of the match, magic moment); Shaun Smith (player of week); Jacob Haigh (top tackler); Joe Beck (away coach's player of match)
