Pennine League 11-a-side Division: Methley Royals 20 Worth Village 36

VILLAGE made it two away wins on the trot with victory at second-placed

Methley.

They were expecting a tough game and weren’t disappointed but were first to score when the nimble Rocky McNulty danced past two defenders and passed a long ball out to winger Steve Janecki, who hit the defensive line and broke through to score.

Their next try came soon after when new centre Liam Mitchell went on a barnstorming run to touch down out wide.

Worth had to battle hard to hang on to their lead, with props Steve Woodhead and Jake Feather working overtime in defence, along with second row Conner Caveney.

Village came close again after Ricky Lund went on a great run from his own line deep into Methley territory before he was finally stopped. Experienced centre Craig Morphet managed to catch him up and ran from acting half, only to be brought down just short.

Village gave away a couple of daft penalties which put them under pressure, leading to Methley scoring a converted try to trail 8-6 at half-time.

At the start of the second half, full back Haffa Karim went on one of his many breaks before the visitors increased their lead when Mitchell ripped the ball out and raced over, Caveney adding the extra two.

Man of the match Quinton Sneyd had yet another strong game in defence and attack, the hooker scoring two tries to extend Village’s lead and Caveney tagging on the extras.

Worth switched off, giving penalties away which lead to Methley scoring two unconverted scores.

But Village replied when Morphet went over after a 20-yard run and Caveney booted the extra two.

A huge tackle from Tom Kelly led to Village’s last try. McNulty moved the ball swiftly to Karim, who stepped his way over to cap a brilliant display.

Methley never gave in and were rewarded with the last try.

Village are at home to Brighouse on Saturday (2pm).
