Keighley on the money at Emley Moor
Emley Moor 30 Keighley 50
Keighley travelled to Huddersfield with the right attitude to play bottom of the league Emley Moor and were soon in front.
They raced into a 10-0 lead with tries from Sean Metcalfe and Kris Gott.
Emley hit back with a converted score of their own but Gott’s second try made it 14-6.
The Huddersfield hosts responded again with another try but Keighley finished the half on top to give themselves some breathing space.
First, Calum Hudson scored after good work from Colin Pickles and Ricky Barr had laid the platform.
Then, just before the break, Chris Atkinson charged to a well- deserved 60-yard try, crashing over under the posts to give his side a 26-14 advantage.
After the break, Keighley looked as if they would run away with the game as an 80-yard try from Alex Young was followed by an even longer run from Gott, whose interception and 90-yard sprint made it 34-14.
Emley were not about to cave in though and they struck back with their first touchdown of the second half.
Metcalfe bagged his second try following a length-of-the-field run to make it 40-18 before a kick through forced an error from Emley’s full back and Gott capitalised to register his fourth try and increase the margin to 46-18.
Then Keighley seemed to relax and let Emley back in the game with two tries before Sean Cole ensured they had the last word by finishing off another good passing move to score in the corner to make it 50-30.
Keighley host Birstall Victoria on Saturday (2.30pm) when they switch their home venue to Marley.
Meanwhile, Division Four champions Silsden rounded off their campaign with a 44-26 victory at home to Slaithwaite Saracens A.
Garry Boocock led the points-fest with two tries and Neil Jordan, Matthew Dobson, Matthew Bowness, Shaun Condren, Chris Greenwood, Jason Scott and Danny Whitaker also touched down. Bowness also kicked four goals.
