Worth Village 14 Ryhill Hammers 10

Worth Village came out on top of Ryhill from Wakefield after an epic game, with both sides determined to beat the winter conditions as well as each other.

Having beaten Village by 46-18 in the first game, Hammers went in front from the kick-off with Village slow to get into position. The Ryhill stand-off ran 60 yards as the visitors went 6-0 up.

Despite the efforts of Village captain and man of the match Dean Farrell, it took the hosts 30 minutes to reply with a try from Joe Hall after a break from Farrell, supported by Sam Kelly and Connor Caveney. Simon McKay kicked the extras to make it 6-6.

Village were on top at this stage and were unlucky not to score again, with Jack Moorby and Jack Kennedy going close, but an interception try just before half-time gave Ryhill a 10-6 lead.

The second half was just as tight, with Village men Sean Knapper and Quinten Sneyd showing the way. Worth levelled with a try from James Shaw after a break from Nick Hird and Aaron Hill gave him the chance.

Ryhill hit back and only good defence from Jake Feather and Simon Bolton kept them out.

With ten minutes left, Village scored the vital try through veteran Chris Ellison after a break from Sean Cole and James Butterfield saw him score wide out.

Village held on for a well-deserved win to leave them third in the table.

Worth are at Methley on Saturday before they hold a charity night for Manorlands Hospice at the Shoulder of Mutton pub from 8pm, including an auction and raffle.
