Keighley 16 Moortown 24

MOORTOWN started well, being determined to take the game to their hosts, and eventually a clever split maul after a line-out gave prop James Maycock the chance to drive over and score, full back Mark Shires converting.

Keighley responded, some solid attacking play leading to a try for winger Luke Carter, and, just before half-time, Keighley took the lead with a Danny McGee penalty.

In the second half, Keighley opted to take the more direct route through the forwards and, although they laid siege to the try line, twice coming close to scoring, strong defence kept them out.

Moortown, weathering the storm, took play deep into the opposition territory, which led to a well-taken try near the posts for centre Max Tomlinson, converted by Shires.

Playing with confidence, Moortown punished some sloppy defending with a try from Shires.

Once again the Keighley forwards fought back, direct play resulting in a try for prop Craig Spencer, but, not to be outdone, Moortown raised their game.

With only minutes remaining, their hooker David O’Leary finished the scoring with a drive over in the corner.
