SSE Yorkshire Division Two

Keighley 29

Sheffield Medicals 0

THE visitors made a lively start until the Keighley forwards took control and drove second-row Leigh Sugden over for the first try. Although Medicals were playing well, they were unable to break down a resolute defence.

Eventually Keighley gained the upper hand and some class handling gave winger Luke Carter the chance to cross in the corner, and second-rower David Illif finished the first-half scoring with a well-taken try that was converted by Danny McGee.

In the second half, Medicals decided to play fast and loose to avoid the dominant Keighley forwards – a ploy that worked well.

They came close to scoring on a number of occasions, but once again a well-organised defence kept them out.

Keighley, playing a more direct game, camped in the opposition territory and, from a dominant scrum, No 8 Josh Hannah drove over, McGee adding the conversion.

Although the visitors were competitive throughout, they were finished off with a well-worked, bonus-point try for flanker Shaun Minikin.
