ENGLAND'S first RBS Six Nations home game on Saturday promises to be extra special for Parkside School pupil Ethan Lawrie.
The 14-year-old will be appearing on the pitch before kick-off at Twickenham as the hosts prepare to face Italy.
Ethan has been chosen to represent the Cullingworth-based school as part of the All Schools programme, a Rugby Football Union initiative to get more state secondary schools playing the game.
He will be wearing a rugby shirt specially designed by pupils from his school at a Canterbury kit design workshop last year.
Ethan attended the workshop at West Leeds RFC, where the pupils enjoyed an interactive session on the history of the rugby shirt and the practicalities of design, before being given free rein to create a shirt in which their school rugby team will play.
The only stipulation of the scheme was that the design was to be the pupils’ choice.
Canterbury, who are the official kit supplier to England Rugby, has produced a set of team shirts for each of the 100 schools involved and the final results will be seen at Twickenham on Saturday, when Ethan will join 99 other pupils wearing their kits on the pitch.
