SOME forum pundits reckoned that Keighley would struggle last weekend at a young, fit Sheffield Medicals side in Yorkshire Division Two.

However, the visitors' director of rugby Russell Gibson was delighted with his side's 18-0 victory, and admitted: "We finished the match strongly.

"We always knew that playing West Leeds at home (Keighley lost 19-13 in their league opener on September 5) would be a tough game as they are one of the best sides in the division but the Medics match continued the good form that we showed in pre-season against Old Otliensians and in the Yorkshire Shield at Ripon (won 36-5).

"But we still need to be better at the breakdown as our centres can look a bit isolated."

Keighley face Ripon for the second time in four weeks on Saturday, this time at home in the league, and must guard against complacency. Back-rower Josh Hannah is back in contention for the hosts.
