Keighley Academy 5 Huddersfield 3rds 17

On paper, the strongest Keighley side of the season so far turned out at Rose Cottage to take on Huddersfield.

But the Academy struggled to find any real cohesion in attack due to new partnerships and a lack of fitness.

Having said that, there was no lack of endeavour but the home side could not break down the visitors' robust defence.

Huddersfield managed a try out wide following a prolonged amount of pressure to lead 5-0 at the break.

Talk of not over-committing at breakdowns, keeping it simple and putting pressure on in defence appeared to fall on deaf ears when another try was conceded within five minutes of the restart.

Keighley rallied with a well-taken try for new scrum half Mark Walton.

But Huddersfield starved the home side of any ball and scored a length of the field breakaway try with some quality interplay.

The try was converted before prop Ollie Sugden dislocated his shoulder before the final whistle to rub salt in Keighley's wounds.

This team will gel in the coming weeks and, when they do, someone will be in for a real hiding.
