Yorkshire Cup: Keighley U-13s 0 West Park Leeds U-13s 39

LAST Sunday's tie was always going to be a big ask against a good, structured team like West Park Leeds.

However, Keighley, whose teamwork and spirit was exemplary, started the game well, with scrum half Nathan Pickles bossing his forwards, and Gregor Curr, Denon Sokee and Jack Smith looking lively and dangerous throughout.

However, optimism was short-lived, with West Park Leeds' talented scrum half feeding their back line, which included an enormous centre, who rounded Keighley winger Arron Hands to pop a short ball inside for their winger to score in the corner.

This was just the start, and the visitors led 25-0 at half-time, dominating open play, but they only managed 14 points in the second half as Keighley bettered them both in the tight and lose.

Keighley pride themselves on having a strong scrum throughout the club, and in this match it created options, with Max Wild picking from No 8 and feeding livewire utility player Kristian Bealey-Kay to make some solid yards.

West Park scored a breakaway try, but Keighley hit back with some great tactical kicking from Curr.

Keighley were met by solid defence, though and, despite full back Toby Stevens being put into space, West Park went the length of the field to score under the posts.

This weekend, Keighley face a strong Bradford Salem team at Rose Cottage.
