KEIGHLEY II battled hard against their Wharfedale III opposition and atrocious conditions – but eventually lost out 39-17.

A fine game of rugby began with hosts Keighley falling behind to two tries, one of which was converted.

That was before Nathan Berry showed great football skills to dribble the ball from inside his own half to score, with Dave Needham converting.

Despite that momentary boost, Keighley conceded two more tries before the break to give the visitors a 29-7 advantage.

In the second half, good work by the the home pack saw a 22-yard rolling maul finished by Smith Brown.

In between two more Wharfedale tries, winger Joe Sugden gathered a quick pass from Andy Marklew to score in the corner following prolonged Keighley pressure.

The final score may have been 39-17, but 17-year-old Keighley debutant Cameron Bealy-Kay was named man of the match.
