KEIGHLEY showed their adaptability in chalking up their first victory of the season in Yorkshire Division One.

They trailed 6-3 at half-time last Saturday in their derby at Yarnbury but turned it around to triumph 14-6, and an interval team talk was an important factor in their success.

Head coach Danny McGee said: "It took a bit of getting used to being back in Yorkshire One, and it was also the first league game of the season.

"Conditions were greasy throughout and we were guilty of throwing it too wide too early in the first half, and what we said at the interval was to go back to basics.

"It still was not brilliant in the second half but it was improved, and our defence – Ben Blackwell and Adam Horsfall were brilliant in the centres – helped us as Yarnbury never looked like breaking through."

McGee added: "The rain meant that there were a lot of mistakes and a lot of turnover ball, and we managed to eradicate some of those in the second half."

No 8 Josh Hannah scored Keighley's try to add to three Alex Brown penalties.

Next up for them is a home against Acklam, who finished ninth in Durham & Northumberland Division One last season having been promoted as Durham & Northumberland Division Two runners-up behind Ponteland in 2014-15.

The Middlesbrough club, who lost 61-15 at home to Beverley on Saturday, were relegated with Keighley from Yorkshire One in 2013-14, gaining only four points compared to second from bottom Keighley's 36, but McGee warned: "It will be a tough game and Acklam never give up.

"There are one or two positions that we are looking at for Saturday, and players are always putting their hands up to be selected but it depends on what happens in training."
