THREE schools were involved in the expanding recruitment event at Keighley RUFC.

Over 60 pupils from Beckfoot Oakbank, South Craven and Parkside enjoyed a morning of rugby fixtures against each other.

This is an important event in the Keighley calendar, promoting rugby union through schools and developing players' skills.

The most important aspect was that the participants enjoyed the experience, which they all did judging by the smiles and laughter.

South Craven were awarded the Craig Dyson Schools’ Day Trophy, not only for winning most games but also for bringing the most pupils and playing the most creative and structured rugby.

Coaching coordinator Steve Welch said: "The ethos of rugby union – teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship shone through.

"It was great to see so many kids participating in rugby. For some it was their first experience of contact rugby, which they all appeared to really buy into.

"We look forward to the partnership continuing to flourish."
