Keighley 12 Malton & Norton 13

A drop goal from Ian Cooke in the dying seconds saw victory snatched from Keighley’s grasp.

Early pressure forced Mal-ton to concede a penalty near the posts but Keighley chose to run the ball and their enterprise came to nothing.

Ben Blackwell converted another penalty to put the hosts in front before Malton dominated the rest of the half. Although Keighley battled hard, without their injured captain Leigh Sug-den at the helm they looked disjointed.

A ragged driving maul was deemed to have been pulled down, which resulted in a debatable penalty try for the visitors and an easy conversion for outside half Chuck Ramsey. In the second half Keighley looked a different team.

Their forwards, driven on by pack leader Scott Dyson and prop Craig Spencer, were more direct and purposeful, allowing the backs to mount a series of attacks.

Malton had difficulty coping and were forced to cough up two penalties which Blackwell converted.

Ramsey kicked another penalty when Keighley were caught offside but the hosts hit back through an Alex Brown drop goal.

Keighley looked to have kept Malton at bay but a handling error gave the visitors a scrum and, after a series of rucks, full back Cooke struck the killer blow.
