Sheffield steels his squad for derby
11:07pm Wednesday 21st November 2012 in Keighley
Keighley have one of their most attractive matches of the season on Saturday.
They are at home to Morley, who have won the Yorkshire Cup 11 times, have won the Powergen Intermediate Cup at Twickenham (2005) and have played as high as the second tier of English rugby in the early 1990s.
However, that was then and this is now, and although the Maroons have won their last three matches with maximum hauls in SSE North One East to climb from ninth to fourth, relegation-threatened Keighley should be up for what is a home derby.
“They haven’t very far to travel, they will be coming on a high and they will have some players from Leeds University,” said Keighley’s director of rugby Graeme Sheffield.
“But this is one of our biggest games of the season and my players will be up for it.
“We hope to have Stuart Inman back but Scott Dyson and Leigh Sugden are big doubts due to rib and shoulder problems respectively.
“They are part of the backbone of the side in the forwards. However, we will name a squad of 20 just in case either of them make it.”
While Morley have beaten Northern 32-16 at home and thrashed bottom two Durham City (94-7) and Darlington (80-5), injury-hit Keighley have lost their last seven matches, albeit three of them narrowly.
They were beaten 49-10 at Beverley last Saturday and Sheffield said: “The game followed a very similar pattern to our defeat at Wheatley Hills and I think Hills will win the division, with Beverley coming second.
“You cannot fault the effort of the lads but if you are outpaced, you are outpaced and if you are outmuscled, you are outmuscled.”
