KEIGHLEY Rugby Union Club official Bob Swift has been awarded for his dedication.

The committee man was honoured at a Yorkshire RFU award ceremony, receiving an accolade for decades of service at the club.

He triumphed in the Thank You From Community Rugby category in the West & Aire Wharfe District of the county.

He received the award at Yorkshire’s County Championship match against Durham at Huddersfield RUFC, where several other volunteers were also acknowledged with prizes.

His citation stated: “Bob is a long-serving, dedicated stalwart of our club.

“He was club chairman for 16 years and a committee member for 48 years.

“In the past, he has managed a number of our teams and has been an ever-present vital cog in our machine, with a long history of rugby in the county.

“At present, he is a committee member, volunteer co-ordinator and an active member of our Wednesday maintenance gang.

“He attends every senior game and the majority of junior games throughout the season.

“Bob, apart from the hard work he offers the club, is one of our senior statesman.

“In this sometimes unrecognised vital role, he is always available to act as the liaison person with other clubs in the district and beyond.”

Also among the award winners were Wibsey Rugby Union Club team manager Steve Brooke, who won the Value The Volunteer prize, and Baildon’s Donna Hector, who won the Mum of the Year accolade.
