ALTHOUGH Keighley gave a better performance than the previous week, it still wasn't enough to defeat derby visitors Bradford Salem last Saturday in Yorkshire Division One.

"It was better than at Acklam," said head coach Danny McGee of the 16-11 defeat at Rose Cottage, "but it was not the consistent display over 90 minutes that I wanted to see.

"We didn't look after the ball enough and we over-threw too many line-outs, and it was quite disappointing really.

"I told the lads in the changing room afterwards that you don't win rugby matches when those two things are wrong.

"Training and the build-up had been good but our execution and ball retention and line-outs were not good enough and we coughed the ball up too easily.

"In contrast, Salem's line-outs were good."

Keighley, who have dropped from second to seventh on the back of three straight defeats (Bridlington, Acklam and Bradford Salem), have no league fixture now until Saturday, January 7, when they visit sixth-placed Beverley.

However, they are taking a Keighley President's XV squad over to Burnley on Bank Holiday Tuesday (December 27) for what has been billed as a War of the Roses clash (2.15pm).

It is the reverse fixture from last Christmas and McGee, who is putting his boots on again, said: "Burnley made a good day of it last year and we intend to do the same as we are taking a coach (meet 11.45am for noon departure).

"Our team will be a mixture of first team, Stags and Academy, and I might start on the bench and come on at centre.

"I will see how it goes but I think I will stick to coaching!"

Keighley President's XV squad: J Clark, C Meehan, D McGee, A Seeley, A Ebbrell, C Bealey-Kaye, J Morton, L Everett, O Mitchell; D Smith, M Symes, A Heys, J Kaye, P Sinfield, P Watson, S Welch, J Chippendale, T Whitehead, J Emmott, M Kelly, S Everett, H Pratt.

OTLEY Rugby Union Football Club’s Boxing Day match against a Prince Henry’s Grammar School Barbarians XV (2pm) will raise funds for the Nathan Cubitt Trust.

Admission at Cross Green is £5 (under-18s are free), and the proceeds will be shared between new kit and equipment for Prince Henry’s first and second XVs and the Trust.

Nathan broke his neck playing in a colts match for Keighley on November 6, 2011.
