LADY Isobel Barnett visited Keighley in 1964.
She is seen here, second from the right, shaking hands with the then mayor, Councillor George W Dale.
Also shown are Mr K Trott, president of Keighley Lions Club; Mrs JA Laycock, president of Keighley Lions Ladies’ Circle, and mayoress Mrs Dale.
Lady Barnett had been invited by the Lions Ladies’ Circle, and spoke to a large audience in the Temperance Hall.
With her sad decline far in the future, her claim to fame was as a panellist in a popular Sunday evening TV show, What’s My Line?, in which four celebrities tried to identify mimed jobs by members of the public.
Inevitably her subject provided “a fascinating glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes in television”, including the use of make-up.
“A bald head did not show up well on television,” she explained, “so it had to be plastered over with thick yellow make-up.”
