Push-ball competitions were popular at the time.
This occasion was a fundraising effort on behalf of a new Keighley Road sports ground.
Born in 1891, Fred Dixon was “a very well-respected person” according to the Silsden local historian, the late Neil Cathey.
“He was a member of the old Silsden Urban District Council from 1946 to 1958,” he said.
“By trade he was a warp dresser. He was also a very good councillor and member and supporter of the Labour Party.
“I think he was best remembered for his fundraising efforts with Jimmy Scott.”
