THERE is no doubt at all that the shock closure of Keighley's hugely-important Connexions centre will add more fuel to the 'break away from City Hall' fire.

The decision to shut the valued facility, but retain provision in Bradford, is playing right into the hands of those pushing for Keighley to once again have its own local authority.

And the independence campaign is only likely to gather more momentum as a result.

But of much greater importance and significance is the impact this is likely to have on our young people.

During its time in the town, Connexions has helped scores of youngsters into work and careers.

Without the advice and direction they received, many would have struggled.

Now our young people face a trip into Bradford if they want to access that same support.

The potential jobs blow comes hot on the heels of another.

News that long-established menswear retailer Greenwoods has gone into administration sent shockwaves through the town.

For the moment at least, the company is continuing to trade.

It's hugely sad to see any historic retail chain facing difficulties, but especially one that is such a familiar and popular sight on our high streets.

Let us hope, for the sake of those who work at the Low Street store and the company's other outlets, that a buyer can be found.
