WE make the laws so therefore we should be able to change them in our favour.

Landlords should be forced into refurbishing the town 'eyesores' in North Street and any other parts of Keighley.

In addition to potentially-unused shop space, I'm sure that there must also be the possibility of accommodation above them?

While we are concentrating on trying to improve the town, who is responsible for all the rubbish at the rear of Cavendish Street?

It's an embarrassment and absolute disgrace.

Come on council, getting those responsible to clean-up should not even cost you anything.

* Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council's executive member for healthy people and places, responds: "We have been aware of all the problems on Back Cavendish Street for several years and have tried many different things to tackle the issues.

"We are now trying a new approach and Community Protection Warning letters have been issued to all tenants and landlords along the street. Legally the council can hold landlords and owners responsible for their property and tenants.

"We have already received some positive feedback from some landlords who welcome the opportunity to work together and recognise that they have a role to play in educating their tenants about their responsibilities, including what to do with their waste, and what is acceptable and not acceptable behaviour.

"In addition to the letters being sent out, the council has installed CCTV in an attempt to identify the perpetrators.

"We are continuing to monitor the area and deal with the issues as they arise.

"It is only by working in partnership that we can help keep Keighley clean."
