WELL said Mr Scaife, and poorly replied Mr Grogan – Who protects us? (Keighley News, July 5).

If we hadn’t the support of the Americans in the Second World War who came in to help in 1941, then we would all now be speaking German.

Without the free French, Canadians, the British and the Polish airmen, and most of all the Americans, this country would have been lost to Hitler.

Because Hitler went for Russia, he failed – the Russian winter saw to that.

And don’t forget, Mr Grogan, that Tony Blair sent our boys into Iraq because he was asked by another warmonger, George W Bush.

I was in Australia in the late 60s and used to see the American soldiers on R & R in Darwin on their way to Sydney.

The reason the Americans pulled out of Vietnam was politics, and they couldn’t defeat the Vietcong who disappeared underground.

Go and learn something – you can holiday in North Vietnam now and explore the labyrinth of tunnels.
