IN reply to Robert Holland – Elderly ‘neglected’ (Keighley News, July 19) – who is rightly outraged by the dwindling amount per capita being spent on care of the elderly, I would like to ask where are all the caring people who, in the past, took the odd meal round to an elderly neighbour or did their shopping for them or just popped in for a few minutes’ chat?

We had my husband’s lovely mother living with us for five years.

I agree it wasn’t ideal, but we were glad to have her and the children benefitted from her wit and wisdom.

The hardest part of being elderly and infirm is the isolation.
